REPORT OF THE SEMINAR OF THE DISTRICTS’ LEADERS OF SUNDAY SCHOOLS ON THE CHOICE OF THE SCHOOL YEAR’S TEXTBOOKS (2014/2015)
The working session of the coordination of Sunday school was held on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at AEBECI’s headquarter in Korhogo. It was chaired by pastor Keo Kognon, president of AEBECI. The national coordinators Soro Abdramane and Soro Nawha Bernard led the session. The agenda was the as follow:
- The choice of the textbooks
- Harmonization of the levels and the first day back at Sunday Schools
The session began at 09h-14mn a.m with a prayer pronounced by Pastor Silué Kparagnini Yacouba. Later on, an exhortation was done by Pastor Keo Kognon. The basic text is taken from the book of Philippians 3: 1-7. The pastor drew the attention of the responsible on two dangers: the character of instructors must teach more than what they say and new technologies such as Internet and television put children ahead teachers. He ended his exhortation by saying that Sunday school is probably an instrument for the Church to enhance the word of God. Following the established program, the welcome word was delivered by Soro Nawha Bernard who encouraged and congratulated the participants for their effort to be present. The second intervention was that of director Mr Yeo Namogo Siriki, representing the national official training, Pastor Soro Ngana. He reminded that the focus is on the training to harmonize and to progress, and also to learn to be better equipped. Hence, the reason for Sunday school. He appreciated this meeting and encouraged participants to greater concentration. The series of interventions was completed by Pastor Keo Kognon. He has also welcomed the prime responsibles for Sunday school for coming. He said that the present work aims at giving a single direction to the training of our children. As to end, he reminded participants the full support of the national board. After the announcement of the program, the work was declared open. They started with the reading of the minutes of the sittings of Bouaké and the adoption of the agenda whose timing has been adapted to the way the work should progress.
I – THE TEXTBOOKS SELECTION
In the year 2014/2015, they decided the following textbooks: For Level I: FIRST STORIES OF THE BIBLE (CPE). For Level II: FIRST STORIES, WORDS AND WORKS OF JESUS. For Level III: JESUS OUR SAVIOUR and THE GREAT LESSONS OF JESUS (CPE). For Level IV: HISTORY OF HEBREW PEOPLE (CPB). For SPECIAL level: THE CHRISTIAN’S LIFE (CPB)
II – HARMONISATION OF THE LEVELS AND THE START OF THE SCHOOL
- HARMONISATION OF THE LEVELS
In order to better harmonize the educational levels, the proposal of the seminar is that the division of children in Sunday’s schools should be made mainly according to their age and with a specificity on the school level and knowledge of the Word of God by the child. However, other issues that will arise will be managed on an individual basis by a board of local Sunday school.
- THE FIRST DAY BACK AT SCHOOL
Seeing that AEBECI’s national board must emphesize on the search of textbooks, their date of use will be decided later. However, the first Sunday in October of each year is officially known as the date Sunday schools start. And for the year 2014/2015, Sunday, November 2 is selected as the first day back at sunday school.
III – VARIOUS
As the textbooks are ordered, the coordinators demand a new census to be done in the different sunday schools. And so, the start of the school must be done within two weeks maximum. The national coordinator called out to the participants of the seminar that the ministry among children is a work which should not be given up.
IV – RECOMMENDATIONS
The seminar recommends that: – the National Board should answer back to the proposals of the current seminar following the textbooks within a month with effect from that day. – Sunday school classes should no longer be closed during vacation. – the National Board should make a circular of these decisions in all the churches.
